Valente advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA Southeast Regional
Championships to lead the Georgia State men's tennis team on Saturday in
Tallahassee, Fla.
Valente
defeated Georgia's Garrett Brasseaux in the Round of 32 by a 6-3, 6-2 score to
begin his day. He then notched a 6-3, 6-2 win vs. Gabriel Flores of Miami.
Valente now advances to play Georgia Tech's Juan Melian in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore
Sofiane Chevallier notched his fourth victory of the tournament with a 7-5, 6-0
win against Florida's Luke Johnson. Chevallier fell narrowly to one of the 9-16
seeds Dominic Cotrone of Floirda State.
Valente
paired with senior Lucas Santa Ana and advanced to the quarterfinals of the
doubles main draw. The pair won a 8-5 match vs. No. 8-seeded Oliver Pramming
and Juan Carlos Acuna Gerard before falling to Nathan Pasha and Brasseaux in
the quarterfinals.
GSU,
led by first-year head coach Joerg Barthel, continues play at the ITA Southeast
Regional Championships on Sunday. Matches will continue throughout the weekend
in Tallahassee, Fla., with the singles and doubles finals taking place on
Monday. The singles and doubles winners from all 12 regional sites will earn
bids to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing
Meadows, N.Y.
