ATLANTA--The No. 46-ranked Georgia State women's tennis team travels to Florida for two matches against top-ranked teams over the Georgia State University spring recess, beginning in Tampa, Fla., on Sunday.

The Panthers (6-6) take on South Florida at 10 a.m. on Sunday before travelling to Orlando, Fla., for a neutral site match against No. 14-ranked Clemson next Tuesday. GSU's showdown with Clemson will mark the ninth time this season the team will face a nationally-ranked opponent. It will be the first Top 20 opponent for GSU since its Jan. 28 match against No. 6-ranked Georgia.

Georgia State, led by sixth-year head coach Miha Lisac, and South Florida are meeting for the second-consecutive season. Last year the Panthers won a thrilling 4-3 contest in Tampa thanks to comeback singles victories from senior Whitney Byrd and junior Abigail Tere-Apisah. With GSU trailing in the team score 3-2, Tere-Apisah fell behind 5-0 in her deciding third set and faced three match points. She fought off all three of those match points, then three more when the set score was 5-2, and won seven straight games to take the third set and win the match. With the team score tied, Byrd fell behind a break early in her third set but dug herself out of the early hole and won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to clinch the GSU win.

South Florida is 7-5 this season and has one nationally-ranked singles player in senior Ecaterina Vasenina (#122). Tere-Apisah owns two victories against Vasenina after meeting her last spring and in the Southern Shootout in Sept. of 2012. USF is coming off of a 5-2 win vs. Miami (Ohio) on Thursday in Tampa. The match is the third of a 10-match homestand to close the season. The Bulls were ranked inside the Top 75 in all but the latest ITA National Team rankings this season.

Georgia State and Clemson will meet for the fourth time in series history on Tuesday. The Panthers are looking for their first win in the all-time series with the last matchup taking place in 2002. Clemson boasts three nationally-ranked singles players in its singles lineup in sophomore Yana Koroleva (#19), freshman Liz Jeukeng (#34) and sophomore Beatrice Gumulya (#45). The Tigers are 6-5 this season and have faced nationally-ranked teams in all but one of their matches. Notable wins include 6-1 triumphs over No. 30 South Carolina and No. 22 Georgia Tech and a 5-2 win at No. 16 Florida State.
