ATLANTA -- Georgia State punter Matt Hubbard has been named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference second team by Athlon Sports.
This is the second preseason nod for Hubbard, who was a third-team All-Sun Belt selection by Phil Steele's College Football Preview, along with wide receiver-return specialist Albert Wilson (second team), offensive tackle Grant King (third team) and defensive lineman Terrance Woodard (third team).
Hubbard, a junior from Peachtree City, Ga., and Starr's Mill High School, was a second-team all-conference honoree in the Colonial Athletic Association last fall, when he ranked second in the league with a 43.1-yard average.
He enjoyed a record-setting day in the 2012 season opener against South Carolina State by averaging 62.2 yards on five punts, which surpassed the NCAA FCS and FBS records but will not appear in the NCAA record book due to Georgia State's reclassification. Hubbard's night was highlighted by a school-record 80-yard punt, and he was named CAA Specialist of the Week and FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week.
The 6-4, 235-pounder has a career average of 42.6 yards per kick with 26 boots of 50 yards or longer.
Playing its first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Sun Belt Conference, Georgia State opens the 2013 season by hosting Samford on Friday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Dome.
