Georgia State's indoor track and field team of 25 student-athletes will compete Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23, in the Arkansas State Invitational in Jonesboro, Ark. The Panthers will challenge Sun Belt Conference foes Little Rock, UL Lafayette and host Arkansas State. Non-conference teams include Memphis, Jacksonville State, Central Arkansas, Grambling, Texas Southern, Mississippi Valley State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Harding and Southern in the 13-team meet.
The event is in the ASU Convocation Center and dimensions are slightly different, but times will be adjusted to compensate (i.e. 55m instead of 60m, or the number of turns involved in the mile run, etc.).
This will be a third consecutive weekend in January for the Panthers' indoor season as improvement continues. GSU has set an indoor school mark in the long jump (Katherine Randolph), with leaders LaPorscha Wells (field events), Ravin Gilbert (sprints) and Stephanie Berger (distance) have multiple wins in their events with top-five all-time indoor bests in their specialties.
"We have never competed at ASU before, so this will be a good experience for our team and it will pit us against some Sun Belt schools," head coach Chris England said.
