Softball Drops Two Games as Offensive Struggles Continue

* Georgia State fell to 0-4 on the season with losses to Indiana and No. RV/23 Utah.

* GSU managed just three hits combined in the two losses and committed seven errors.

* GSU plays its fifth and final game at the Kajikawa Classic Sunday morning at 11 a.m. EST against No. 24/RV Notre Dame.


TEMPE, Ariz. – Totaling just three hits on the day, Georgia State lost both games Saturday at the Kajikawa Classic. The Panthers fell 4-1 to Indiana and 9-0 (5) to No. RV/23 Utah at the Tempe Sports Complex.

In the first competition of the day, Georgia State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning over Indiana. Ivie Drake drew a walk and would score on a Mandy Blackwell RBI double. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be enough to secure the first win of the season, as the defense committed four errors leading to the 4-1 defeat. Bridgette Flaherty made her GSU debut in the circle and allowed one earned run over 2.2 innings. Fellow transfer Annie Davis pitched the remaining 3.1 innings and allowed just one hit.

GSU returned to the Tempe Sports Complex for a night cap against ranked Utah. The Utes a receiving votes in the NFCA poll and are ranked No. 23 in the USA Softball poll. The Panthers again struggled at the plate and Taylor Bradley recorded the team's lone hit of the game. Utah took advantage of three GSU errors and scored nine runs on 13 hits to win 9-0 in five innings.

Georgia State closes out the Kajikawa Classic Sunday morning against No. 24/RV Notre Dame at Farrington Stadium in Tempe. The Fighting Irish will be GSU's third ranked opponent in as many days. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. local time, or 11 a.m. EST.
