Chiara Volejnicek, who clinched a victory for the women's tennis team over No. 29 South Carolina, is the Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week, powered by the U.S. Marines.

Volejnicek won (4-6, 7-5, 6-1) in the decisive match of a tight 4-3 win over No. 29 South Carolina on Saturday. The win marked the highest-ranked opponent ever defeated in the history of the women's tennis program.

After dropping her first set to Rachel Rohrabacher and being down 5-3 and 40-love in the second set, Volejnicek rallied for the 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory. Volejnicek survived four match points in the match and won nine of the last ten games to secure a Panther win.

She also defeated Furman's Karlee Bryde 6-2, 6-3 in a 6-1 win on Friday.

The women's tennis team will open the home portion of the spring schedule on Friday facing FIU at 4 p.m. at Dunwoody Country Club.
