GSU 4th with 4 Champions at SBC Indoor Meet

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Georgia State produced four conference champions, six more all-conference performers and set five school records at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships.

GSU finished with 82 points, just .5 off last year's total, to finish tied for fourth place in its fourth year of competing at an Indoor Conference Championship Meet. Last year's team was fifth, making this the highest finish.

In addition, Georgia State earned another point in “The Rivalry Series” with Georgia Southern, upping Georgia State's season lead to 8-3.

LaPorscha Wells, the junior from Augusta, Ga. turned in two amazing performances that set both Sun Belt and GSU school records in the weight throw and the shot put as she scored 20 points. The junior, who had been the Most Outstanding Performer of the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships in the spring, had a weight throw Monday of 20.06m (65-9.75). That topped the Sun Belt Championship mark of 19.78m and her school mark of 19.32m.  On Tuesday, Wells won the shot put with a 16.55m (54-3.75) toss to break the Sun Belt mark of 16.47m and her school record of 16.01m.

Ravin Gilbert was a two-time All-Sun Belt honoree. The senior from Winter Chapel, Fla. repeated as the 60m champion with a time of 7.36 that was the second-fastest time in school history by .01 (7.35). She broke her own school record in finishing third in the 200m in 24.06 to earn all-conference status again. The 60m championship is her fifth all-time Sun Belt Championship win.

Sophomore Nuria Ramirez picked up GSU's fourth Sun Belt championship, winning the 800m run. The Palma, Spain native ran 2:12.83 to win at the tape by .02.  Her time was the fifth-fastest 800m in school history.

Junior Tracy Dorcemont earned All-Sun Belt status by finishing third in the weight throw with a distance of 19.32m (63-04.75).  The GSU 4x400m relay team finished third with a season-best indoor time of 3:47.05. That all-conference quartet is Jasmyne Robinson, Ashlan Rosier, Sydney Davis and Jada Steward.

GSU had 3 events, six performers, who finished fourth to earn five points from their event for GSU. Senior Stephanie Berger was fourth in the 3,000m run (9:57.09), junior Alysiah Whittaker was fourth in the shot put (15.82m, 51-11) and the distance medley relay team (12:16.47) of Lindsay Shealy, Tyler Watson, Brianna Archer and Nuria Ramirez.

The Panthers had a pair of sixth-place finishers with Katherine Randolph leaping 5.76m (18-10.75) to top her own school record. Sydney Davis ran 56.38 to place sixth in the 400m run.

Jada Steward finished seventh in the 200m (24.66) to pick up two points, while Stephanie Berger placed eighth in the 5,000m run (17:30.12) to claim one point in the scoring.
