Panthers Headed to Beach for Weekend Action

What You Need to Know

  • GSU will take a 4-1 record and No. 47 ITA ranking to Fort Myers this weekend for dual matches against FGCU and Tennessee
  • The Panthers will look to rebound after dropping a tough 5-2 decision to No. 62 FIU last weekend.
  • The team will travel to New York next weekend for matches against Columbia and Princeton.

ATLANTA, Ga. – After catapulting 20 spots to No. 47 in the most recent ITA Rankings, the Panthers will square off against Florida Gulf Coast and Tennessee this weekend.

FGCU brought their record to 4-3 after sweeping Eastern Michigan 7-0 on Tuesday. Junior Breana Stampfli was recognized as Atlantic Sun Women's Player of the Week following her match-clinching win against UCF last weekend.

Tennessee fell out of the rankings for this first time this season and has a 4-4 record after falling to No. 2 Ohio State. All four of the Vol's losses this season have been at the hand of ranked opponents.

Linn Timmermann will likely continue to lead the Panthers in singles at the No. 1 position, where she holds a 4-1 record with a win against No. 71 Caroline Dailey of South Carolina.

Freshmen leadership has been a key all season for the Panthers. Lara Vovk, Daniela Ramirez, and Chiara Volejnicek have combined for an 11-3 record in singles competition to begin the season.

Georgia State will face FGCU Friday at 4 p.m. and Tennessee at 10 a.m. Saturday.
