QUOTING HEAD COACH GREG FRADY

On the game at Georgia Tech: "This is always a meaningful game to our program and our fans. Georgia Tech is a program with a great tradition and a beautiful facility, so this game will be a lot of fun and a big challenge for us. In this next stretch of games, first at Georgia Tech, then continuing with Minnesota this weekend and Mercer next Tuesday, we will have to play good baseball to be competitive."

On what he learned from four-game sweep of Coppin State: "I think we learned that we can make adjustments. We have a lot of new players, so it takes a little time to get everyone acclimated. But if we put the emphasis on the things we can control, we can play good baseball."

LEADING OFF

• Georgia State (5-2) has won four in a row after a four-game sweep of Coppin State, including three straight shutouts. GSU outscored the Eagles 64-4.

• The Georgia State pitching staff has thrown three consecutive shutouts with a school-record 24 straight scoreless innings. The previous record was 20.1 innings vs. Texas Southern in 2011.

• In the four-game sweep, GSU pitchers allowed just 19 hits and four walks while striking out 41, and the Panthers committed just one error.

• Junior outfielder Jaylen Woullard, a transfer from Florida State-Jacksonville CC, leads the Sun Belt Conference with a .476 batting average and is tied for third with nine RBI.

• Senior catcher Joey Roach, hitting .440 with two homers and nine RBI, ranks second among active Sun Belt players in career hits (151), tied for second in RBI (95) and fourth in homers (16).

Joey Roach, Jaylen Woullard and Jarrett Hood have hit safely in all seven games.

• Georgia State's starting pitchers have combined for a 4-0 record and a 1.13 ERA with 51 strikeouts against 13 walks. Friday starter Cole Uvila has zero runs allowed and 16 strikeouts in 13 innings.

• This will be Georgia State's only road game in the first month of the season as the Panthers play 19 of the first 20 games at home. The Feb. 23 game scheduled at USC Upstate was rained out.

• Three Panthers were tabbed to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team in catcher Joey Roach, center fielder Ryan Blanton and shortstop Justin Jones.

• Roach and Blanton are returning first-team all-conference picks, while Jones was a Freshman All-American in 2015. That trio combined to hit .309 with 14 homers, 89 RBI and 105 runs scored while providing strong defense up the middle.

• Senior left-hander Wayne Wages, who takes over as the closer, was named to the NCBWA Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List.

• This year's roster features 18 returning letterwinners and 17 new players, including five freshmen, two redshirt freshmen and 10 transfers.

• In his 10th season at the helm, head coach Greg Frady has 288 wins at GSU. He needs just six victories to break the Georgia State career record of 293 wins by Mike Hurst, from 1993-2006.

SERIES VS. GEORGIA TECH:
Georgia Tech holds a 61-10 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 1971 and has been continuous since 1993. The Panthers are 4-12 against Tech under head coach Greg Frady, who took over at GSU in 2007. Three of the four wins have come at Tech's Russ Chandler Stadium. GSU's 10-1 victory in 2009 over a Tech team ranked No. 3 in the nation represents the highest-ranked team that the Panthers have ever beaten. Georgia State has defeated nationally-ranked Georgia Tech teams four times under Frady.

Last season, Georgia Tech won the only meeting, 6-3 at GSU. The game at Tech was cancelled due to inclement weather.
