Panthers Back on Track after Win Over No. 56 Winthrop

  • Georgia State was 5-4 and on a three game slump entering this weekend.
  • Winthrop was 8-1 with an eight match win streak entering today. This is the Panthers' second win over a ranked opponent this year.
  • GSU will face the Miami Redhawks tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.                       

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Georgia State got back to winning ways today with a 5-2 victory over the 56th ranked Winthrop Eagles. With today's victory, the Panthers are now 6-4 this season.

Senior Niri Rasolomalala secured the match point with a hard fought 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win in the third singles position.

In doubles play, Linn Timmermann and Tarani Kamoe earned the Panthers the doubles point with a 6-2 win in the first position. Daniela Ramirez and Chiara Volejnicek took the first doubles match with a quick 6-1 finish.

In singles play, Timmermann, Rasolomalala, Volejnicek, and Ramirez recorded a win each. Chiara Volejnicek was the only Panther to record a win in straight sets with a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

Tomorrow's match against Miami has been moved to 11 a.m. Miami is 5-4 on the season and will be bringing a three match win streak with them.
