SORRENTO, Fla. – The Georgia State women's golf team shot a second round 31-over 319 to remain in 15th place entering the final round of the MSU Spring Citrus Challenge at RedTail Golf Club.
Following a day with windy conditions and cool morning temperatures, the Panthers sit at 55-over with one round to play.
Freshman Jemima Gregson led the Panthers with a second round 6-over 78 to stand tied for 39th at 10-over par.
“The team continued to fight today, but we are struggling to make good scores,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “The conditions were a little tough early in the day, but we have to learn how to deal with those situations. We will look to finish the tournament strong on Tuesday.”
Junior Jooeun Bae added a 7-over 79 on Monday and sits at 11-over par, tied for 44th, while fellow junior Solene LeCoz sits at 15-over and tied for 68th following a second round 80.
Sophomore Paula Zabarte shot 83 on Monday and sits 20-over and tied for 100th, while sophomore Yasemin Sari added an 82 and is tied for 109th at 25-over.
Elon and James Madison are tied for the lead at 21-over following 36 holes of play. Western Kentucky sits third at 26-over, while host Morehead State, Ball State and North Florida are tied for fourth at 28-over.
Elon's Kelsey Badmaev shot a second round 2-under 70 and leads by one stroke at 2-under. Teammate Heather Munro and Jacksonville State's Valentina Giraldo are tied for second at 1-under, while North Florida's Nathalie Nygren is fourth at even par. A group of four golfers round out the top five at 2-over par.
Following this week's tournament, Georgia State will return to action March 27-29, hosting the 23rd annual John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club. The event is free and open to the public.
