Gregson Leads Panthers at MSU Spring Citrus Challenge

SORRENTO, Fla. – The Georgia State women's golf team saved its best round for last, shooting a final round 19-over 307 to place 16th at the MSU Spring Citrus Challenge at RedTail Golf Club.

Freshman Jemima Gregson shot a 1-over 73 on Tuesday to finish the tournament 11-over and tied for 22nd, jumping 19 spots in the standings on the final day.

The Panthers finished the 54-hole event 74-over par, but shot 12 strokes better in the final round as compared to round two.

“The team played so much better today,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “I am proud of the fact that they did not give up all week and the scores were evident today. Hopefully we can use that as momentum as we return home for our event this weekend at Eagle's Landing Country Club.”

Junior Jooeun Bae added a final round 4-over 76 to place in a tie for 39th at 15-over par, while fellow junior Solene LeCoz shot 80 on Tuesday to finish at 23-over and tied for 77th.

Sophomore Yasemin Sari finished with her best round of the tournament, a 6-over 78, to finish at 31-over par and tied for 101st. Fellow sophomore Paula Zabarte shot a final round 85 and finished 33-over, tied for 106th.

Western Kentucky, Elon and James Madison shared the team championship, each finishing at 35-over par. North Florida finished fourth at 40-over, while Florida Gulf Coast rounded out the top five at 42-over.

Elon's Kelsey Badmaev shot a final round 72 to finish at 2-under par to earn low medalist honors. Jacksonville State's Valentina Giraldo finished second at 1-under, as Elon's Heather Munro and Ball State's Kelsey Sear tied for third at 1-over. James Madison's Laura Cox rounded out the top five at 3-over par.

Georgia State will return to action March 27-29, hosting the 23rd annual John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle's Landing Country Club. The event is free and open to the public.
