MURFREESBORO, Tenn.- In the second of a three-day series in Murfreesboro, Tenn., the No. 66 Georgia State men's tennis team defeated UAB 4-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers improved to 12-4 while the Blazers fell to 10-7.
The Panthers opened the match strong, winning doubles play in the first two matches. Zackery Kennedy and Jack MacFarlane defeated Luiz Felipe Pinto and Mitchell Martell 6-3 before Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou clinched the point with a 6-3 win over Christian Coetzee and Kenton Parton in the No. 1 match. Jannis Koeke and Felipe Jaworski's match went unfinished.
Kennedy was the first Panther to finish singles play, earning a 6-4, 6-1 win over Eric Komati. Jaworski widened the score to 3-0, defeating Pinto 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 6 match. The only loss for the Panthers came when Koeke fell 6-1, 6-4 to Martell.
MacFarlane clinched the match for Georgia State with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Stepan Vancurik in the No. 5 match. Acuna and Andrukhou's matches went unfinished due to the clinch.
