At the midway point of the outdoor track & field season, Georgia State's progress has been a measureable success:
- 11 top five performances in the Sun Belt categories with 3 that are the best
- 9 top five performances that are top 5 in school history with 2 new records
- 9 performances that are top 45 in NCAA East qualifying with 5 in the top 20
With four meets down and four meets to go, including the all-important Sun Belt championships, GSU's snapshot shows the student-athletes are off to a solid start. But, the more-crucial second half of the season will determine how successful the season will become.
“There have been a handful that are really representing well and having some impressive performances, but more consistency and more improvement will be needed in the final meets,” coach Chris England said. “Then, the most-important Sun Belt Championships will be the real barometer with the team championship. In addition, many members will strive to have their individual performances qualify them for the NCAA East Preliminaries.”
In NCAA track and field, there are only two regionals (East and West) with the top 48 individual times and the top 24 relay times qualifying to compete May 26-28 in Jacksonville for a chance to move on to the NCAA Championship Meet in June.
