Sophomore first baseman Jack Thompson is this week's Sun Belt Conference Community Coffee Student-Athlete of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Thompson went 10-for-16 (.625 average) with two homers, seven RBI and eight runs scored in four games last week, including victories over Mercer and UT Arlington.

Thompson's three-run homer at Mercer was the key blow as the Panthers won 10-6 to sweep the season series from the Bears.

Against UT Arlington, he collected six hits in Saturday's doubleheader, including his second homer of the week and fourth of the season.

In Sunday's 8-7 win over UTA, he had three hits, including a run-scoring single that put the Panthers ahead 7-6 in the seventh inning.

For the season, the Alpharetta, Ga., native (Milton High School) is hitting .359 and is tied for the team lead with 25 RBI (sixth in the Sun Belt). Also an excellent defensive player at first base, he is the only Panther who has started every game this season.
