MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Jemima Gregson shot an opening round 2-over 73 to sit in a tie for first place and Georgia State shot a 27-over 311 and to sit in fifth place following the first round Sun Belt Conference Championship on Sunday at The Raven Golf Club.

Gregson, who has a pair of top 10 finishes this year, made four birdies during the opening round and was 1-under par with just four holes to play before three-straight bogeys.

Georgia State has won five conference championships under head coach Cathy Mant, but is looking for its first Sun Belt title and first overall since 2010, which would return to the Panthers to NCAA Regional play for the first time in six years.

Troy leads the nine-team field at 16-over par, with Texas State in second at 17-over. Little Rock is third at 25-over, with Arkansas State in fourth at 26-over. The Panthers sit at 27-over, with South Alabama just one stroke back in sixth at 28-over.

“Jemima just played wonderful golf today,” head coach Cathy Mant said. “She stumbled a little at the end, but considering that she has not been in this position before, played great. The course played tough with a lot of wind and not a lot of birdie opportunities, but we are still very much in this tournament. We will do some work this afternoon and see what happens tomorrow.”

Sophomore Yasemin Sari is tied for 12th at 5-over following an opening round 76 that included a pair of birdies.

Juniors Jooeun Bae and Solene Le Coz are tied for 30th at 10-over par as each opened with rounds of 81. Sophomore Paula Zabarte rounded out the line-up with a 12-over 83 and is tied for 38th.

Gregson is tied with Troy's Bianca Lohbauer at 2-over for first place. Texas State's Raksha Phadke, Maty Monzingo and Lora Assad are tied for third at 3-over.

Troy has won the last two Sun Belt Conference Championships, including last year's rain-shortened win by 12 strokes.

Live scoring throughout the event can be found at Golfstat.com. Live video of the 10th and 13th holes can also be found at SunBeltSports.Org/Watch with Dan McDonald and Gerald Broussard calling the action.

Georgia State will be paired with South Alabama and Arkansas State for the second round on Monday, going off Hole No. 1 at 8:30 a.m. ET. The final round is scheduled for Tuesday.

With a win, Georgia State will advance to NCAA Regional play May 5-7, at one of four locations throughout the country.
