NEW ORLEANS – In only her fourth singles match of the year, Tarani Kamoe clinched the match point (6-1, 6-2) for Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference Quarterfinal match against UL Monroe.
Kamoe was named to first team all-conference in doubles last night with partner Linn Timmermann.
The junior from Nadi, Fiji had a strong day all around as she and Timmermann clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court one.
Coach Marshall was impressed with the strong play of the upperclassmen, “Linn and Tarani played very well. Knowing we were already up 1-0 and we already had third doubles, I think it took a little bit of pressure off us from the beginning so we could play loose.” He went on to praise Kamoe in her singles performance as well, “She served really well, she's a left hander so when she gets her serve and her forehand going she's tough to beat.”
The Panthers will face Troy Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in the Sun Belt Conference Semifinal Match. Troy won 4-1 in their quarterfinal match against Georgia Southern. With that Georgia Southern loss, GSU picked up another point in the Rivalry Series to hold a 9-5 year-long advantage.
Georgia State outlasted Troy 4-3 in Atlanta on April 8. Niri Rasolomalala clinched that match for the Panthers with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 win.
