NEW OLREANS – Georgia State recorded another 4-0 sweep in the Sun Belt Championships Saturday at City Park Tennis Center.
The Panthers opened the match with a 2-0 win in doubles to jump to an early 1-0 lead. GSU held the Trojans to 11 game points in the 3-0 singles finish.
Linn Timmermann was the first to finish in singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court one. This was her 13th singles win this season, the third best on the team.
Coach Jason Marshall praised his seniors on Saturday first speaking on Timmermann. “She's got a lot of experience here, she won the conference her sophomore year, and she's been huge for us in big matches.”
Daniela Ramirez followed suit with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court two to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Ramirez is tied with Rasolomalala for best singles record on the team. Both have a 15-3 record this year.
Niri Rasolomalala extended her team high win streak to 11 with her 6-3, 6-1 match clinching win on court three.
Coach Marshall went on to commend the recent play of Rasolomalala as well, “She's just playing so well. She's playing some of the best tennis I've seen her play since she came here and she's stepping up her level a lot.”
With the win, Georgia State moves on to face No. 2 South Alabama Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
Georgia State has already beaten the Jaguars once this season. The Panthers won a 4-3 battle in Atlanta for both teams' last matches of the season. GSU has also won four of the last five meetings.
