CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Georgia State rolled to 10 first places, seven second places and nine third places to dominate the eight-team Western Carolina Invitational Friday.
Leading the Panthers individual efforts was LaPorscha Wells with wins in both the shot put and hammer. Busy Jada Steward had a first in the 100m dash, the 4x100m relay and a second in the 200m run. Sydney Davis won the 400m race and took first with the 4x400m relay team. Alysiah Whittaker claimed a first place in the discus, second place in the hammer and even a third-place in the shot put. Tyler Watson won the 400m hurdles and was on the winning 4x400m quartet. Nuria Ramirez won the 3,000m steeplechase and Allyson Goff won the long jump. GSU's winning 4x100 relay team was Steward, Ravin Gilbert, Ashlan Rosier and Katherine Randolph. The winning 4x400m relay team was Jasmyne Robinson, Ashlan Rosier, Tyler Watson and Sydney Davis.
GSU amassed 248 points in its 16 events that it entered in a show of domination. Host Western Carolina had the second-most points, a distant 74 points behind GSU, with Jacksonville State and ETSU rounding out the top half of the eight-team event on the campus of Western Carolina.
Other second-place finishers for GSU included Kassandra Pierre in the 400m hurdles, Sammi Donovan I the 3,000m steeplechase, Ashlan Rosier in the long jump and Lauren Sims in the javelin.
This was GSU's seventh and final outdoor regular-season meet. The Panthers will now turn all the focus on the Sun Belt Championship Meet in two weeks at UL Lafayette from May 13-15.
