ATLANTA – Georgia State senior JJ Grey has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 4 Men's At-Large Team as announced by the organization on Thursday. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Grey becomes the four Georgia State men's golfer to be recognized, but first since 2003. The Sun Belt Golfer of the Year and All-Sun Belt First Team member earned his degree in psychology last Saturday, graduating with a 3.82 GPA.

The senior will now be on the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Grey became the first Panther to earn four all-conference first-team honors when Sun Belt awards were announced last week. His 71.39 scoring average is currently the second-lowest single season mark in program history. He has six top 10 finishes this year and has finished outside the top 25 just once in 11 events. He lost the Sun Belt Conference individual title in a playoff to teammate Max Herrmann, but rebounded with a pair of 6&5 wins in match play the following day as Georgia State just missed winning a conference championship.

“JJ is everything you could want in an all-around, well-rounded student-athlete,” head coach Joe Inman said. “He has earned nearly every honor for his play on the course and performed equally well garnering recognition for his work in the classroom. I'm extremely proud of him and know that the future is extremely bright.”

Georgia State will play in the NCAA Arizona Regional starting Monday, looking to advance to its sixth NCAA Championship appearance later this month. This will mark the fourth-straight year Grey has competed in NCAA Regional play. His freshman year he qualified as an individual, before the last two years leading Georgia State to postseason play.
