Women's Golf Announces Addition of Kaur and Choi

ATLANTAGeorgia State women's golf coach Cathy Mant announced the signings of a pair of talented local junior golfers who will join the Panthers for the 2016-17 season. The highly-touted pair includes Harmanprit Kaur from Lawrenceville and Grace Choi from Buford.

“We are excited about the additions of Harmanprit and Grace to our Georgia State program,” Mant said. “Each are talented young local golfers who will bring a lot to our program as we look to return to postseason play. I'm excited to start working with them in August.”

Choi played at Mill Creek High School for Jeremy York, finishing seventh at the state championship in 2015. She also earned Class 6-A Region 7 First Team honors in 2015 and All-Gwinnett County recognition.

While at Mill Creek, she earned a varsity letter all four years, leading the school to three region championships in a row and a fourth place at the state championship in 2015. The Hawks won the regional championship again in 2016, finishing in seventh place at the state championship.

“Grace Choi is excited about the opportunity to play collegiate golf and to growing her game,” Mant said. “As a walk-on, she is eager to earn a position on our traveling team through hard work and determination.” 

Kaur, who starred at Brookwood High School for Steve Thompson, recently finished runner-up at the Class 6-A State Championship, leading her team to a 12th place finish. She has been ranked as high as No. 184 in the Golfweek national rankings.

She earned All-Gwinnett County First Team honors three times and was also a three-time region player of the year. She placed first or second in 14 of 26 career high school tournaments, earning all-state honors three times. She was also a three-time regional champion and three-time Gwinnett County Super Six honoree.

Kaur finished in first place at the SJGT DJGS Junior Classic at Furman shooting 76-75 and second at the Canebrake Classic, shooting 74-73. She also earned a first place title at the Atlanta Junior Golf Championship and was third at the Preseason Junior at Chateau Elan.

Harmanprit Kaur is a talented young player who has shown great improvement during the past year and has a strong chance of stepping into our line-up next season,” Mant said. “Harmanprit is very dedicated to reaching her potential as a golfer and as a student. I am excited to see what the future holds for her.”

Georgia State concluded its season at the Sun Belt Championship last month. The Panthers are scheduled to begin the 2016-17 season in September.
