ATLANTA -- In addition to schemes and techniques, Alex Stoehr and the Georgia State offensive line are working on chemistry as the Panthers continue preseason drills in preparation for their Sept. 2 season opener vs. Ball State.
The Panthers held their second practice of preseason camp Friday morning on a quick turnaround after a rain-delayed first workout Thursday evening.
"It always takes a little time to get back into the swing of things, but the summer conditioning really helped out. I think everyone is in good shape," said Stoehr, the Panthers' starting right guard.
The junior from Suwanee, Ga., and North Gwinnett High School is the only Panther lineman to start every game the last two seasons. He is one of three returning starters on the offensive line, along with senior left tackle Michael Ivory and sophomore center Gabe Mobley, who was tabbed to the Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List.
"Our goal as an o-line is to help us have a more balanced offense by running the football more," Stoehr said.
And one of the keys to offensive line play is coordination and chemistry among the five-man unit.
"I have really good chemistry with my right tackle, Sebastian Willer. We hang out all the time, but whole line has been getting together a lot more, having o-line dinners, things like that," Stoehr said.
Willer, a junior who was a part-time starter last fall, looks to earn a starting berth, competing at tackle with sophomore Lucas Johnson and redshirt freshman Hunter Atkinson. Candidates at guard along with Stoehr include senior Dom Roldan, junior Davis Moore and senior Tyler Simonsen, while senior Akil Hawkins is working at center behind Mobley.
