ATLANTA- After a week of preseason training, the Georgia State women's soccer team heads to Nashville, Tenn., to face Lipscomb in the first of its two exhibition matches on Tuesday.
This will be the first fall match for the Panthers under new head coach Ed Joyce, who was hired in March. Joyce previously coached the team in three spring exhibition matches.
Georgia State is a young team, with eight freshmen on the roster and only five starters remaining from last year's squad.
“These exhibition matches are a great opportunity for the younger girls on the squad to get used to playing D1 soccer,” Joyce said.
The Panthers return Brie Haynes in the goal after sitting out for a year due to an injury. On defense, Amanda Bruemmer and Kenzie Winters bring experience both on and off the field. Haynes and Winters have two years of experience and Bruemmer has three as a starter.
This will be the second exhibition match of the season for the Bison, who lost 2-1 to ETSU on Saturday. Lipscomb has three exhibition matches on its schedule, with its final exhibition match against Memphis on Friday.
Georgia State will face Lipscomb for the third time, with GSU leading the series 2-0. The last time the two teams played each other ended in a 5-0 win for the Panthers.
The match is set to kickoff at 5 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.
