ATLANTA- Sophomore Hannes Burmeister earned the first Offensive Player of the Week award from the Sun Belt, the conference announced Tuesday. Burmeister was also named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts on the field.
Burmeister scored a hat trick in the 4-1 win over Memphis, with all three goals coming in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Two of his goals were unassisted and one came off a penalty kick.
The three goals put the Bentwisch, Germany just one shy of tying his season high for goals and set a personal record for shots in a game. Burmeister's seven shots from this weekend put him over halfway to tying his career single-season record of shots in a season from last year's 12.
Georgia State will return to the field on Friday at 7:30 p.m. to host Lipscomb as part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
