ATLANTA – Tomorrow morning, the Georgia State women's tennis team will travel to Athens, Ga. to begin its fall season with the 2016 Bulldog Classic. The tournament will be held from Friday until Sunday at Athens Country Club and will feature host UGA as well as Georgia Tech and Texas Tech.

The women's tennis coaching staff will bring all seven roster players to Athens this weekend. The 2016-17 GSU team has three newcomers including Ilona Golynker, Anastasia Grosheva and Damira Muminović. Key returners Tarani Kamoe, Kristin Rehse, Lara Vovk and Daniela Ramirez will look to set the tone for the team early this fall.

Under head coach Jason Marshall, the team has had a great summer and last few weeks of training in preparation for the fall season. Marshall said GSU is fit and expects to see highly competitive matches this weekend.

Although the fall season is not as results oriented, the coaches and players still have high expectations for themselves. The team is excited for the 2016-17 season after last year's success of a Sun Belt Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Marshall said he hopes the Bulldog Classic will reveal the areas in which the team can improve moving forward.

Host UGA finished last season with a 22-7 record and ranked No. 7 nationally. The Bulldogs also have four players ranked in the top 30. Texas Tech has five players in the ITA preseason singles rankings to Georgia Tech's three. The Red Raiders and Yellow Jackets both reached the NCAA Round of 16 last season.

After this weekend, GSU will travel to Waco, Texas for the Under Armour Invite starting October 7th.
