ATLANTA- The Georgia State women's soccer team will continue league play this weekend, hosting new Sun Belt team Coastal Carolina Friday night before travelling to Appalachian State on Sunday.
The team enters the weekend at 3-3-3 (0-1-1 Sun Belt) after splitting the opening weekend of conference play.
Senior Alexis Thomas is leading the offense for the Panthers, taking 14 shots this season and scoring the game-winning goal against Alabama State in the home opener. Sophomore Caitlin Ray is a close second in the offensive effort, taking 12 shots and scoring one goal.
Redshirt-junior Brie Haynes is leading the team in the net, making 54 saves in nine games. Haynes is ranked third in the conference for saves this season, averaging six saves per game. She set a career record for saves in a game with 15 in the conference opener.
Coastal Carolina Preview
Coastal Carolina enters the weekend undefeated in Sun Belt play, defeating Arkansas State and Appalachian State last weekend. Overall, the Chanticleers are 5-3-1 and are on a three-game win streak.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night in Panthersville. Admission to the GSU Soccer Complex is free of charge.
Appalachian State Preview
The Mountaineers are 5-5 this season, 0-2 in league play. ASU was defeated by Coastal Carolina and Troy in the opening weekend of Sun Belt play. The team is one a three-game losing streak.
This will be the fifth time the teams have met, with GSU holding a 3-1 series advantage. The two teams met last year in Boone, N.C. and the Panthers earned a 1-0 win.
