ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's soccer team will travel to Boone, N.C., to continue Sun Belt play against Appalachian State Saturday night. The Panthers are 9-6 overall (1-1-0 Sun Belt) after a 3-1 loss to Georgia Southern and a 3-1 victory over Howard.
GSU is on a two-game win-streak, shutting out Jacksonville 2-0 on Tuesday to earn its second shutout of the season. Senior Casey Shultis scored the game-winner for the Panthers, his second goal of the season.
Sophomores Max Hemmings and Hannes Burmeister lead the Panthers on offense, scoring 15 of the team's 31 goals. The duo also leads the team in shots with 35 of GSU's 83.
Georgia State is performing solidly on defense, holding Jacksonville to just five shots with only one on target. Junior Yannic Horn has made 46 saves this season to give him a .676 save percentage.
Appalachian State is 4-6-3 overall (1-1-1 Sun Belt) and in a four-way tie for first place in the conference with four points following a 2-0 victory over Howard and a double overtime draw at Hartwick. The team played Coastal Carolina Wednesday night in a 2-1 loss for the Mountaineers.
The two teams will face each other for the eighth time in series history, with GSU holding a narrow 4-3 advantage. The Panthers are undefeated in Boone, N.C., defeating the Mountaineers on the road 1-0 in overtime in 2014.
