Panthers Notch Victories on Day One of GSU Invite

The Georgia State women's tennis team got off to a fast start on day one of the Georgia State Invite out in Clarkston. The Panthers competed against some tough competition including Furman in singles at 10 a.m. and Oregon in doubles at 1 p.m.

* Several Panthers notched victories on the day. Kristin Rehse, Daniela Ramirez and Lara Vovk picked up wins in singles against Furman. GSU hung tough against Oregon, but dropped all three matches to the Ducks this afternoon.

* Georgia State will be back in action tomorrow against MTSU and Furman in doubles and Oregon in singles. Follow along for updates on GeorgiaStateSports.com.


ATLANTA – The Georgia State women's tennis team got off to a strong start on day one of the Georgia State Invite in Clarkston, Ga. Head coach Jason Marshall was proud of the effort level and resiliency the team showed to open the tournament.

To start the day, Kristin Rehse defeated Furman's Katty Weymouth 6-1, 7-5. GSU's Daniela Ramirez and Lara Vovk managed victories in singles play. Ramirez topped Ansley Speaks of Furman 6-7(3), 6-4 and 6-2. Vovk outlasted Furman's Danni Vines 7-6, 2-6 and 6-3.

In doubles, Georgia State came up empty against Oregon with an 0-3 record. The Ducks handed losses to Tarani Kamoe and Daniela Ramirez by a final of 6-2. Damira Muminovic and Kristin Rehse as well as Anastasia Grosheva and Lara Vovk fell short 6-3 and 6-1, respectively.

Oregon went undefeated on the day with a 3-0 doubles record and a 6-0 record in singles. Middle Tennessee State and Furman split their doubles matches two apiece.

Tomorrow, the Panthers will square off against MTSU in doubles at 10 a.m. Immediately following, GSU plays Furman in doubles. At noon, Georgia State meets undefeated Oregon in singles to round out the day.
