ATLANTA – Georgia State sophomore Nick Budd earned his first career victory and earned Sun Belt Golfer of the Week honors on Wednesday.
The honor concluded a busy week for Budd and the Panthers who played two tournament in an eight-day stretch.
Budd opened the week by winning the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate, shooting 67-69-68, to finish at 12-under par. His three-round total of 204 is tied for the fifth-lowest three-round total in program history.
He finished the week by tying for 40th at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic shooting 78-68-69 to lead Georgia State to a tie for eighth in the 24-team field that included eight teams in the top 50 of the latest GolfStat rankings.
“I'm extremely proud of the way Nick is playing and how he is developing as a student-athlete,” head coach Joe Inman said. “He is playing the best golf of his career and has stepped up when we needed him. I'm thrilled he received this honor.”
Budd has shot in the 60s in six of his last seven rounds, including five of six during this Sun Belt update period.
Georgia State has concluded the five tournament fall season and will return to action in the spring, Feb. 20-21, at the Mobile Intercollegiate hosted by Sun Belt foe South Alabama.
