ATLANTA - Georgia State's women's basketball team will begin its 41st season Friday in Morehead, Ky. as the Panthers compete against Morehead State on Friday and Eastern Michigan on Saturday. Both contests are part of Morehead State's Donna Murphy Classic.

GSU will open the season against the tournament hosts Friday at 6 p.m. in a rematch of last year's home game with the Eagles on Nov. 21. Morehead State won that meeting 99-90. Friday's game will mark the fifth time the Eagles and Panthers will play each other. The series is currently tied at 2-2. The Eagles are coming off a 10-20 season, but return five players that scored double-figures against GSU in 2015-16.

Georgia State then turns around and faces Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Johnson Arena. That will be the first meeting between the two sides. It will also be the first regular-season game for EMU as they defeated Lawrence Tech Monday in their lone exhibition. EMU went 22-12 last year and participated in the WNIT.

The Panthers return all five starters from a year ago including Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Madison Newby. Junior Makeba Ponder was selected to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Second-Team after leading GSU in scoring a year ago.

Listen to both games this weekend for free as John Morgo enters his third season doing play-by-play for the Panthers. The games can be found on the GSU Athletics mobile app or online at GeorgiaStateSports.com.

Live stats for both contests can also be found on the mobile app and on the website.
