ATLANTA - Georgia State will compete in its first indoor track and field meet of the season Friday at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker in Birmingham, Ala.
This annual December event gives teams a chance to get acclimated before the semester break when the full indoor season kicks off on January 8.
GSU will take 20 competitors from its roster, leaving home mainly the upperclassmen from the distance runners who just finished cross country season.
The 9 ½-hour day of competition on Friday begins with the long jump and ends with the 4x400 relay. GSU will compete in five field events (weight, shot put, long jump, high jump and triple jump), six track races (60m, 60m hurdles, 200m, 400m, 800m, Mile) and two relay races.
Last season, Georgia State produced four conference champions, six more all-conference performers and set five school records at the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. This year's squad returns three key Panthers from a year ago in LaPorscha Wells, Nuria Ramirez and Tracy Dorcemont.
