ATLANTA – Following a busy fall schedule, the Georgia State men's golf announced its spring schedule on Monday as the Panthers look to return to NCAA Regional play for the fourth-straight year.
Georgia State finished the tough fall schedule with a 40-36-1 record, tying for eighth of 24 teams at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic to wrap up the first half of the year.
Georgia State will open the spring season at the Mobile Intercollegiate at Magnolia Grove Crossing Golf Club in Mobile, Ala., Feb. 20-21. It will mark the third time in four years opening the spring at the event hosted by Sun Belt Conference foe South Alabama.
The Panthers will return to the course March 5-8 at the Tiger Invitational at Grand National Golf Club in Opelika, Ala., in the first of three events in the month. Georgia State has finished third and fifth in the event just across the state border in the last two years.
Georgia State will make its third trip west this season for the Bandon Dunes Invitational, March 12-14. It will mark the first time play in Gonzaga's event on one of the premier courses in the northwest.
The Panthers will close the month at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C., March 26-28. It will mark the second time GSU has played in the annual event hosted by Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish.
Georgia State will return to the 3M Augusta Invitational April 1-2 at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The Panthers will join an elite field the weekend before the start of The Masters.
“I think it is a great schedule that will prepare us for the postseason,” head coach Joe Inman said. “We played really well last year, but our strength of schedule nearly kept us out of the postseason. That will definitely not be the case this year.”
Georgia State will look for an eighth conference championship at The Raven in Miramar Beach, Fla., April 23-25, at the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
NCAA Regional play will once again take place at six national sites, May 15-17. The NCAA Championship is set for Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club in Sugar Grove, Ill., May 26-31, with the final day of stroke play and the match play portion of the event televised on The Golf Channel.
