NASHVILLE- The Georgia State men's tennis team fell 4-2 to Vanderbilt Sunday evening, handing the Panthers their first loss of the season.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 3-1 overall, while the Commodores improved to 5-1.
GSU opened the match strong, earning the doubles point in the third match. Jannis Koeke and Zackery Kennedy defeated Pen Binet and Cameron Klinger 6-2 in the No. 1 match, while Felipe Jaworski and Quentin Coulaud fell 6-1 to Daniel Valent and Billy Rowe in the No. 2 match. Andrei Andrukhou and Sebastian Acuna clinched the doubles point with a xx-xx win over Panu Virtanen and Baker Newman.
Andrukhou put the Panthers ahead 2-0 in the No. 4 match with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Virtanen. In the No. 1 match, the Commodores scored their first point of the match when Koeke fell 6-2, 6-4 to Klinger. Vanderbilt tied the match at 2-2 as Newman won 6-2, 6-2 over Coulaud, before pulling ahead of GSU when Valent defeated Kennedy 6-2, 6-3.
Rowe clinched the match for the Commodores when Acuna fell 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 match. MacFarlane's match went unfinished due to the clinch.
The Panthers will be back in action in Winston-Salem, N.C., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Jan. 27-28.
