
ATLANTA -- Freshman sensation D'Marcus Simonds is the Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week, powered by the U.S. Marines, after leading the men's basketball team to a pair of Sun Belt Conference victories to extend the GSU winning streak to five in a row.
In the Panthers' two wins last week, he averaged 25.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game while shooting 22-of-33 (66.7 percent) from the floor.
Last Monday, Simonds finished with 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting while pulling down four rebounds and swiping a career-high five steals. He also went 5-of-6 from the line as Georgia State topped Appalachian State 83-72.
On Saturday, Simonds tied his career best with 26 points on 12-of-17 shooting. He added six rebounds, three assists and two steals in a season-high 35 minutes as the Panthers won at Troy 78-72.
He has scored 24 or more points in three of the last four games and is averaging 18.0 points per game in Sun Belt play.
For the season, Simonds is averaging 11.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.4 percent from the floor.
He was also named College Sports Madness National Mid-Major Player of the Week on Monday while garnering CSM Sun Belt Player of the Week honors.
