ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 28 South Carolina in its second home match of the season on Sunday.
With the loss, the Panthers fell to 5-4, while the Gamecocks improved to 5-0.
In doubles play, the Panthers went up a match when Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou defeated Gabriel Friedrich and Paul Jubb 6-2 in the No. 2 match. South Carolina tied doubles play in the No. 1 match when Zackery Kennedy and Jannis Koeke fell 7-6 to Yancy Dennis and Harrison O'Keefe. The Gamecocks clinched the point as Jack MacFarlane and Quentin Coulaud fell to Thomas Mayronne and Andrew Schafer 7-6.
Kennedy was the first Panther to finish singles play, falling 6-0, 6-3 to Friedrich in the No. 1 match. The Gamecocks went up 3-0 when O'Keefe defeated Koeke 6-3, 6-2. South Carolina clinched the win as Dennis earned a 7-6, 7-5 win over Coulaud.
The teams decided to continue playing following the clinch, with the three remaining matches all in the tie-breaker set. Acuna fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 to Schafer in the No. 5 match and MacFarlane fell 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 to Fennell. Andrukhou was the final Panther to finish, falling 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 to Mayronne.
The Panthers will be back on the court at Louisiana to open conference play on Feb. 10.
