ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's tennis team will open conference play this weekend with a pair of road matches at Louisiana and South Alabama. GSU will face the Ragin' Cajuns Feb. 10 at 3:30 p.m. and the Jaguars on Feb. 12 at noon.
The Panthers are 5-4 this season, splitting their home-opening weekend 1-1. All four of the team's losses have come from Power-5 opponents, and three have come from ranked teams.
Senior Zackery Kennedy leads the team in singles play, going 3-3 at the No. 1 spot and 2-1 at the No. 2 spot. Kennedy has defeated ranked opponents and athletes from ranked teams on his way to earn a No. 85 ITA ranking.
Sebastian Acuna and Andrei Andrukhou are also top competitors on the team, with Acuna going 4-3 and Andrukhou going 4-1. The pair also compete together in doubles, going 4-3 at the No. 2 spot.
The Ragin' Cajuns are 8-2 this season, and are on an eight-match winning streak. Louisiana opened the season with a loss to then-No. 27 Florida State, who GSU defeated in the championship match of the FSU Spring Invite. The team is undefeated at home.
South Alabama is 5-2 this season, with losses to then-No. 27 Florida State and Troy. The Panthers defeated both teams in the FSU Spring Invite in January. The Jaguars will host Auburn on Feb. 11 before hosting Georgia State.
