LEADING OFF

* After four straight road games, Georgia State returns home to host a three-game weekend series with Northern Kentucky.

* Georgia State is hosting the Norse for the second time. In 2014, NKU won the series with a 6-5, 11-inning win on Friday and a 4-3 victory Saturday. GSU won the Sunday game 13-2. Senior outfielder Ryan Blanton is the only current Panther who played in that series.

* After falling at No. 17 ranked (Baseball America) Georgia Tech on Tuesday, the Panthers have two more road games next week against another ranked foe in Ole Miss (Ranked as high as No. 9 by Collegiate Baseball), March 7-8 at Oxford, Miss.

* Third baseman Romero Greer, a transfer from Pensacola State, is off to a hot start, hitting .500 (9-for-18) with a homer, five RBI and five runs scored while playing stellar defense. His batting average leads the Sun Belt.

* Senior center fielder Ryan Blanton has a team-leading two homers and six RBI. He led off the 2017 season with a home run vs. Marshall, the fifth time in his career he has led off a game with a homer.

* Two players who missed the 2016 season due to injury have figured prominently already for the Panthers. Outfielder-DH Cam Sperry (knee) went 4-for-4 on opening day and is hitting .391. Relief pitcher Logan Barnette (shoulder) earned a win over BYU and a two-inning save vs. Jacksonville last week.

* Freshman Hunter Gaddis, a 6-5 right-hander from Sequoyah High School, has earned two of the Panthers four wins, against Marshall and Jacksonville. He is scheduled to make his first start Saturday.

* Georgia State's 2017 schedule is perhaps the most ambitious in school history. The 2017 slate includes four different Power Five opponents and 13 games against 2016 NCAA Tournament teams, including a home series with Coastal Carolina, the defending national champions and the newest member of the Sun Belt Conference.

* Eleventh-year head coach Greg Frady is Georgia State's career leader in victories with 311 after passing Mike Hurst (293) on March 20, 2016. In the last year he has also been honored with two different Hall of Fame inductions, joining the German Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame and the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame.

* Frady is just two victories shy of 500 for his career, including 187 wins at North Florida C.C.

* All but three players on the 2017 roster hail from Georgia, including 26 Panthers from the Atlanta area. Only Jaylen Woullard (Mississippi), Romero Greer (Texas) and Jansen Acton (Alabama) are not from the Peach State.
