ATLANTA -- Five weeks to the day before the inaugural game at Georgia State Stadium, head coach Shawn Elliott and the entire team and staff spent the morning in their new home, helping prepare the venue for its opening.

The Panthers open the 2017 season and Georgia State Stadium by hosting Tennessee State on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.

Team and staff members helped to re-number the seats and prepare suites and other areas of the stadium.

"This is our home, and I think it's important that we invest in it with a little sweat equity," Elliott said.

Senior defensive lineman Julien Laurent added, "It's a good feeling to put in work for our own stadium. I'm excited for how the program is going to look this fall and in the future. It's an exciting time for Georgia State."

Today's work marked the final day of summer conditioning for the Panthers, who will officially report for preseason camp on Monday and then hold their first pratice on Tuesday morning, Aug. 1 at the GSU Practice Complex.

"We report Monday. Our first meeting is at 1:30, and then we hit the practice field at 8:45 the next day," Elliott said. "It's certainly a time that everyone is anticipating. We're anxious to see exactly where we are."
