BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- In the regular season opener, the Georgia State women's soccer team fell to UAB 1-0 Friday night.

With the loss, the Panthers fell to 0-1 on the young season and the Blazers improved to 1-0.

Georgia State opened the match on the defensive side of the ball with the Blazers controlling the ball for most of the first half. UAB scored early, with Rachel Green scoring what proved to be the game-winner at the 14-minute mark.

The team came out of halftime looking to find the equalizer, but five Blazer saves kept Georgia State out of the net. The Panthers posted 13 total shots, seven of which were on target.

Junior Monique Hundley led the team in shots, posting five overall and three on goal. Freshman Alex Addington took three shots with two on goal for GSU.

"We created some very good chances tonight and on a different night the result could have gone our way," head coach Ed Joyce said. "You have to give credit to them for taking their chance and getting the win on the night. We had a lot of young kids experience their first Division I game and we are better for it."

The Panthers return home on Aug. 20 for their home opener against Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available at GeorgiaStateSports.com and a live stream will be available free of charge on PantherVision. Parking and admission to the GSU Soccer Complex are free to fans.
