Alarape Named GSU Student-Athlete of the Week

ATLANTA - Senior men's soccer player Rashid Alarape is this week's Georgia State Student-Athlete of the Week, powered by the U.S. Marines, after leading the Panthers to a 2-1 win over No. 2 Wake Forest last week.

Alarape scored his first game-winning goal of the season, his second overall, in the 2-1 overtime victory over No. 2 Wake Forest. The victory was the highest-ranked opponent defeated in program history and tied for the highest-ranked opponent to be defeated in GSU history.

Alarape's two goals this season rank second behind Hannes Burmeister (3) and his nine shots lead the team. Seven of his shots have been on target for a .778 shots on goal percentage.

The Stone Mountain, Ga. native led the team with three shots against Lipscomb on Saturday and tied for first with two shots over Wake Forest.

The Panthers are scheduled to return to the pitch on Tuesday facing Belmont at 7 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Complex.
