ATLANTA- The Georgia State men's soccer team will take its three-match win-streak to UNC Asheville Tuesday afternoon following back-to-back Sun Belt wins.
The Panthers are 9-4 (2-0 SBC) and lead are in first place in the league after defeating Georgia Southern and Howard.
In the past three matches, three different Panthers have scored their first goals of the season. Freshman George Proctor scored the final goal over UAB, while Lukas Joyner and Frank Rosenwald netted their first of the year over Howard.
Senior Rashid Alarape continues to lead the team with eight goals, ranking second in the Sun Belt conference. Hannes Burmeister netted the game-winner over rival Georgia Southern in the SBC opener, ranking second on the team with five goals.
The defense has allowed just two goals in its last two matches, shutting out Howard Saturday night. Senior Yannic Horn has made 35 saves this year for a .795 save percentage to lead the conference.
UNC Asheville is 1-12 overall this season and on a six-match losing streak. The Bulldogs fell to Sun Belt opponent Appalachian State Tuesday night, with the Panthers hosting the Mountaineers Saturday night.
The teams will face each other for the 16th time in series history, with Georgia State holding a slight 8-7 advantage. The Bulldogs traveled to Atlanta last year and GSU defeated UNC Asheville 3-2 in overtime.
