MONROE, La. – Georgia State's softball team swept Saturday's doubleheader against ULM, winning 5-4 in Game 1 and 6-3 in Game 2.
Game 1: GSU 5, ULM 4
Georgia State rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the fifth inning to take Game 1 from the Warhawks. The Panthers scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings before scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.
Mallory Parson threw 3.2 scoreless frames to earn her first win at GSU. Parson allowed just three hits and held ULM off the board as GSU mounted its comeback.
Kinsley Jennings retired the side in the bottom of the seventh for her fifth save of 2018.
Down 4-0 in the fifth, Arden Jobe drew a leadoff walk to get the rally going. With two on, Ivie Drake singled up the middle to score GSU's first run. Kirsten McMonigle then made it 4-2 with a sacrifice fly.
In the sixth, Skylar Mosel drew a leadoff walk and after a bunt-single by Kristin Hawkins and a pair of groundouts, GSU had runners on second and third with two outs. Brenna Skalski then singled to left field to score both runners and tie the game at 4-4.
In the top of the seventh, Hawkins doubled down the right-field line to score Baylee Sexton and put GSU on top 5-4.
Game 2: GSU 6, ULM 3
Georgia State used a pair of home runs from All-American candidate Ivie Drake to defeat the Warhawks.
Drake's first dinger of the game was a two-run shot in the top of the third.
The Panthers added a run on a solo homer by Arden Jobe to go up 3-0 in the top of the fourth before ULM scored twice in the home half to make it 3-2.
Ivie Drake hit her second homer of the day in the fifth, a solo shot to put GSU in front 4-2. Megan Litumbe doubled home another run later in the inning to score GSU's fifth run.
The Panthers made it 6-2 in the top of the sixth on a Reagan Morgan groundout.
ULM scored in the bottom of the sixth, but GSU would hang on to win 6-3.
Kinsley Jennings moved to 12-9 as she efficiently worked around 11 hits to hold ULM to just three runs through 5.1 innings. Mandy Chance closed things out as she allowed only one hit in the final 1.2 frames.
Georgia State moved to 27-20 (12-9 SBC) with the doubleheader sweep. The Panthers will go for the series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
