STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia State men's soccer ended its match against in-state rival Georgia Southern in a 1-1 draw Saturday night at Eagle Field, snapping the Panthers' three-game win streak against the Eagles.

The draw moved GSU to 8-4-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the Sun Belt while Georgia Southern went to 5-5-3 on the year and 1-0-1 in conference play. With one conference match left, the Panthers remain unbeaten and are first in the league with five points.

Georgia Southern got on the board first in Saturday's contest, firing a goal from the top of the 18-yard box that flew into the top-left corner of the goal and gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. GSU struggled to retain possession in the first half, being held to just three total shots after 45 minutes of play.

The Panthers opened the second period with a stronger attack and were able to keep pressure on the Georgia Southern back line, tripling their shot total from the first half. GSU found the equalizer in the 67th minute when a cross from Kyle Clinton met Aris Briggs in the box who headed in his fourth goal of the season and tied the score at one.

Neither team was able to get many good attempts at goal in either of the 10-minute overtime periods. The Panthers had one of its better looks on a counterattack in the final minute but saw a shot from Max Hemmings sail wide right.

Saturday's draw gave each school a half-point in the 2018-19 Rivalry Series, which the Eagles lead 1.5-0.5. The next contest between the two schools is Oct. 27 in the women's cross country Sun Belt Conference Championship.
