Simonds Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

ATLANTA – Georgia State junior D'Marcus Simonds led the Panthers in a pair of games during the opening week of the season to earn Sun Belt Player of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

Simonds earned the award for the fourth time in his career while averaging 25.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 1.0 steal per game against East Tennessee State and Montana. He went 7-of-17 from 3-point range in the opening two games.

Simonds has already garnered Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year and All-Sun Belt Preseason First Team honors this season after earning the league's player of the year award last season.

In the regular season opener against ETSU, Simonds finished with 21 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots as the Panthers earned a 74-68 victory over a team that won 25 games last year. The junior went 4-of-8 from 3-point range while playing 39 minutes.

On Friday facing the Big Sky Conference favorite Montana, Simonds scored 30 points on 11-of-24 shooting, while grabbing five rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots. He scored the first 10 points of the game and 20 of Georgia State's 33 first-half points.
