
Jack Thompson, Will Kilgore and Justin Jones hit solo home runs to back a strong pitching effort by Hunter Gaddis and five relievers as Georgia State knocked off No. 16 Coastal Carolina 3-2 in their Sun Belt Conference series opener Friday at Springs Brooks Stadium.

Georgia State travels to Sun Belt Conference leader Coastal Carolina, ranked as high as No. 16, as the Panthers make their first ever visit to the Chanticleers. Coastal Carolina swept last year's three-game series in Atlanta in the first meeting between the two schools.


Jack Thompson and Will Kilgore homered and Georgia State defeated in-state rival Mercer for the fourth time in the last five games.

Georgia State has won three of the last four against Mercer and five of the last seven meetings.

Georgia State dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Texas State, 10-5 (11) and 9-3, Saturday at the GSU Baseball Complex.

Romero Greer had a career-high four RBI and the Panthers scored four runs in the ninth inning before falling 10-9 to Texas State.

After Wednesday's 5-2 victory at Georgia Tech, Georgia State is riding a four-game winning streak, including a sweep of Arkansas State last weekend, 12-3, 16-7 and 3-2.


Will Kilgore and Romero Greer drove in two runs each and seven Georgia State pitchers combined for a 5-2 victory over Georgia Tech.

Led by National Player of the Week Nick Gatewood, Georgia State plays at Georgia Tech Wednesday at 6 p.m.

He hit .533 on the week, with a .619 on-base percentage and a 1.400 slugging percentage while catching 34 of the Panthers' 35 innings.

Jordan Lee pitched 7.1 strong innings and Jack Thompson drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh-inning double.
