Georgia State volleyball's Celeste Friesen has been named Sub Belt Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday. Friesen totaled 53 digs in eight sets, to help the Panthers to a 1-1 open to conference play.

Georgia State volleyball won a five-set heart stopper over UL-Monroe (25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 14-25, 15-9) Friday night at the GSU Sports Arena. The win improved the Panther's record to 7-7 on the season and 1-0 in Sun Belt play. GSU has won four of their last five matches.

The Panthers open up a sixteen-match Sun Belt schedule this weekend by hosting University of Louisiana-Monroe, and Louisiana at the GSU Sports Arena. Georgia State volleyball closed out the GSU Invitational with a four set win over Davidson on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers defeated the Wildcats 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20. The win improved GSU to 6-7 on the season, and gave the Panthers a 2-1 record in the tournament.
Georgia State volleyball split a pair of matches Saturday in day one of the GSU Invitational. The Panthers opened the 2017 home campaign on a high note with a win over South Carolina State in three sets. In the nightcap GSU would battle hard in a loss to Wofford College (19-25, 22-25, 25-17). Georgia State is now 5-7 on the season, 1-1 at home. Georgia State will wrap up the 2017 non-conference season tomorrow against Davidson.

The Panthers will take on Jackson State, SIU-Edwardsville, and Chattanooga as part of the Scenic City Showdown. The Showdown will be the final road non-conference tournament for GSU before returning to the Sports Arena next weekend.
