The Georgia State volleyball team ended the 2017 season with back to back five set victories over rival Georgia Southern. The first gave Sally Polhamus her 100th career victory as a head coach, and the second gave GSU ten wins on the year. The Panthers finished with a 10-19 (4-13 SBC) and finished tied for eighth in the Sun Belt.
The Georgia State Athletics Department had eight student-athletes named recipients of the the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Awards, as announced by the Sun Belt Thursday.

Georgia State volleyball fell to Appalachian State in four sets Saturday night at the GSU Sports Arena (25-18, 25-12, 23-25, 25-14). Sarah Renner recorded her 500th assist on the season during the match.
Sophomore Celeste Friesen etched her name into the Georgia State record books halfway through the third set of Georgia State's match against Coastal Carolina. The libero from Marietta recorded her 18th dig on the evening, which would be the 500th in her dig on the season. Friesen is now one of five Panthers to reach the 500-dig mark in a single season. GSU was unable to provide a win to go along with the milestone, falling to Coastal Carolina in three sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-14).
After two straight weekends on the road, Georgia State volleyball returns to the GSU Sports arena this weekend to face a pair of familiar foes. The Panthers will host Coastal Carolina on Friday night before battling Appalachian State on Saturday. Both matches have a 6:00 p.m. start time.
Georgia State volleyball lost a heartbreaking five-set match at Little Rock Saturday night (25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 17-25, 10-15). The Panthers will return home next week after playing their last four matches on the road.
Freshman Paige Etherington enjoyed a career night, but it fell in vain as Arkansas State defeated GSU in three sets, (14-25, 18-25, 17-25) Friday night. Georgia State has an opportunity to go 1-1 on the road trip as they battle Little Rock tomorrow night.
