Beth Van Fleet, a long time beach volleyball professional and former GSU star, became the head coach of the Georgia State beach volleyball team prior to the 2013-14 season. She served as the assistant coach for the inaugural team in 2012-13.
During her tenure at Georgia State, Van Fleet has twice earned the GSU SAAC Coach of the Year Award (2016, 2018), and was named the 2016 CCSA Coach of the Year. Her 103 career wins rank first among all active CCSA coaches.
Van Fleet has led the Panthers to three straight 20-win seasons. In 2018 GSU tied a program record with 22 regular season victories. She reached the 100 win mark on April 15, 2018 when GSU defeated University of New Orleans 5-0 in Baton Rogue. The 2017 sesaon saw Van Fleet coach Delaney Rohan and Chelsea Ross to the CCSA Pair of the Year Award, and the Panthers to a 21-win season.
In 2016, the Panthers earned a program high 26 wins. Van Fleet led the team to a No. 7 national ranking and a bid to the NCAA Tournament. The team featured four First Team All-CCSA members, and Booke Weiner on the CSSA All-Freshman Team. Jansen Button and Sara Olivova were named AVCA All-American Honorable Mention.
In her second season, Van Fleet led the Panthers to their first appearance in the AVCA National Championship in May 2015 and coached two All-Americans in Jansen Button and Sara Olivova. The team reached as high as No. 7 in the AVCA poll before earning a No. 5 seed at the postseason tournament.
GSU finished with a 14-5 dual match record in Van Fleet's first season. Each of the five teams that defeated GSU were represented in the 2014 AVCA National Championship.
As an assistant, Van Fleet helped GSU's No. 1 pair earn a third-place finish at the 2013 AVCA National Pairs Championship.
Coach Van Fleet currently serves as the chair of the AVCA All-American Committee.
Van Fleet spent eight seasons (2003-10) with the Association for Volleyball Professionals, competing in over 80 career sand tournaments and representing the United States abroad. She is well-known throughout the sport and has worked with some of the top athletes and coaches in the game. She earned five top-10 AVP finishes during her pro career and medaled during NORCECA competitions in Mexico and Guatemala City.
Van Fleet spends her off-seasons working in the marketing industry, creating and executing direct-mail and email campaigns.
During her collegiate court career in the Panther uniform, Van Fleet piled up 1,177 kills from 1995-98, the fourth-most in school history. She became one of the first players in GSU history to amass both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs, earning second-team all-conference honors her junior and senior seasons. Van Fleet helped lead the Panthers (then in the Trans America Athletic Conference) to two regular season conference championships, three winning seasons and 69 victories in four years.
Van Fleet was also an all-conference academic selection all four seasons, graduating in 1999 with a 3.79 GPA in marketing.
While in college, Van Fleet worked as a head club coach in the metro-Atlanta area, helping prep athletes succeed on the court and earn collegiate scholarships.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Van Fleet currently resides in Atlanta and is completing her MBA in Sport Business Management.
Beth and her husband Donald Miller are proud parents of daughter Olivia Miller.
