Steve Vencl was chosen in January 2014 to fill one of the two open assistant coaching positions on Sally Polhamus’ staff. He came to Georgia State after two years as an assistant coach for Cincinnati from 2012-14. One of his primary responsibilities was serving as the technical and video coordinator, breaking down video for upcoming opponents, and designing scouting reports for players. He also was the primary on-campus recruiting specialist and acted as the social media contact and marketing coordinator.

In 2011 Vencl helped Houston reach as high as No. 31 in the NCAA Volleyball RPI Rankings. The 2011 season also marked the first time in 17 years which Houston had a player named to the AVCA All-America Third Team.
In the 2010 season, Vencl served as a volunteer assistant coach for Marquette. While there, the team set a school record for wins in a season (23), conference wins (11) and longest winning streak (14). Marquette finished in third place in the Big East Conference in 2010. Three players were AVCA All-Region selections and three were First Team All-Big East selections.
Vencl received a bachelor of arts in individualized programs from Toledo in 2010.
He is married to Corrie Magnus Vencl, a former middle hitter at Toledo. They reside in Atlanta with their dog, Otis.
