William Winter joined the Georgia State staff in 2013 as compliance coordinator and currently serves as assistant director of compliance. Among his primary duties, he is responsible for eligibility certification of all student-athletes, rules education programs, and authoring the department’s policies and procedures manual. Winter also serves as the primary liaison to the Georgia State University Admissions, Registrar and International Student Services offices.
Winter came to Georgia State after serving as a graduate assistant at Florida State. His duties included legal research and editing for a sports law professor, and he collaborated on a number of sports law articles published in newspapers and academic journals. During this time, Winter also served as a law clerk for a private firm in Tallahassee specializing in the areas of employment, higher education and local government.
While attending the University of Texas, Winter worked for the Longhorns' athletic department and coached youth basketball. Prior to attending law school, Winter worked for professional sports organizations such as the Dallas Cowboys (NFL) and Austin Toros (NBDL).
Winter holds a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Texas, a law degree from Florida State, and a master’s degree in sports administration from Georgia State. He is a licensed attorney in the state of Georgia.
